Isabel surrounded by her musicians

Since 2017, MIAS Groupe has brought Isabel’s Colombian roots into dialogue with cumbia, salsa, pop, jazz fusion and the influences of the musicians who join her.

Since 2017

Two worlds brought together through music

MIAS Groupe was created in Switzerland in 2017 from an idea Isabel had carried since childhood: bringing together her Latin American roots and the musical world she discovered in Europe. She shared the project with Spanish guitarist Carlos García and Swiss double bassist Cédric Gysler. MIAS has been her stage name since her teenage years in Colombia and is formed from the initials of Maria Isabel Arango Santacoloma. Over the years, musicians and lineups have evolved while Isabel refined an identity based on rhythmic fusion, personal arrangements and closeness with the audience.

Our musical universe

Cumbia, Afro-Colombian fusion, salsa, pop and jazz fusion

The repertoire is sung mainly in Spanish, with a few songs in French. MIAS Groupe revisits familiar songs by sometimes changing their rhythm — a rock song may become a cumbia — and also performs several compositions written for the project. On stage, danceable passages alternate with softer, more emotional songs.

The regular lineup

Regular musicians around Isabel

Isabel selects the lineup for each performance. The musicians presented here are those with whom she collaborates most regularly. Depending on availability, the venue or the instruments required, other musicians familiar with the repertoire may join or replace the lineup. Each performance is prepared and rehearsed to preserve the same musical identity and standard of quality.
